Mosquitoes like to
dine at night and after all the
wet weather and
warm air they now abound in many
gardens as well as the usual holiday areas.
The
mosquitoes colonise any areas of
water, so if rain has filled the odd container or toy left in your garden, it could have become it a choice
breeding ground for the dreaded mossie!
So the
first thing to do is
empty any water that has
collected in toys and containers.
To avoid bites:
- cover up in the evening out of doors;
- if you are sitting in the garden burn a citronella candle or when out and about spray citronella essence on the hems of clothes;
- apply DEETfree natural insect repellent to exposed skin every two to three hours;
- shut bedroom windows;
- try wearing a patch (see below).
Treating bites
Most bites don't
require treatment but if you are one of the
unlucky ones whose
bites become very
red, hot, swollen and
itchy, try the following:
- homeopathic Apis mel 30c - dissolve a tablet in your mouth every couple of hours until the symptoms - red hot and swollen - get better;
- apply a proprietary sting relief product like Stingose Spray £3.99/25ml (safe for children as well);
- put on an ice-pack;
- apply a pain relief gel.
These
insect repellent patches last for up to
36 hours and are
effective even after
swimming and
showering.
The
patches are applied to a hairless part of the
body.
Applied and removed in seconds
without leaving any residue.
Patches are
100 per cent natural and contain
Thiamine (vitamin B1 - research has shown this helps repel mosquitoes) which work with the body to create an
"invisible shield".
