When asked what he would say about the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Castle Lego Kit our six year old grandson said: "It’s the best thing I’ve ever had, Nana!" This coming from a fanatical Lego user meant the comment was even more surprising. I then wondered what else needed to be said. However stepping back as an adult and watching the growth of this amazing Lego structure day by day took my breath away so I can now appreciate how he feels.
Over a period of about three weeks our grandson literally dedicated his recreational time (when not at school or with family and friends) to building Bowser’s Castle and the smaller accessories that come with it.
Although advertised as suitable for the nine plus age group, if your children are already happily building Lego kits (or their own structures) then the three graded construction booklets provided will be easily accessible to them. Ten clearly numbered graduated bags of Lego makes progression and hence success easier for the children to experience.
The booklets are visually well presented and require limited if no reading skills. If the children can follow diagrams and sequenced numbering they will happily engage at a younger age. Our grandson needed minimal support or, for that matter, encouragement to dive in and do. In fact no one dared stop him! The concentration, dedication and enthusiasm were intense.
As is the case with any Lego, this kit encourages the development of fine motor skills and (when around) social interaction with other children and adults. In this case particularly when asked questions about what he was doing and the Super Mario characters involved.
For example see below. The firing turtle shell on the front of Yoshi’s car is fun! It flies super fast. The stickers were a little fiddly to put on but with a little perseverance worked out well. The fun vehicle and character are very much in the vain of the Super Mario world. This was completed from the first two Lego packs and booklet 1.
And so it progressed until one day a fantastic photo was sent to me! The finished kit is mega!
All I’ve got left to say is that the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Castle Lego Kit has brought such immense enjoyment for our grandson (to some extent also peace and quiet to the rest of the household for an unusually prolonged period of time). We all love it!
Definitely deserves maximum hearts.
