When the myFirst Camera Insta 20 landed on our doorstep, Edith (aged four, professional whirlwind and part-time diva) was very excited to get going.
The camera came well packaged and setup was a breeze. No YouTube tutorials required. Just a quick charge and voilà — it was ready to go, complete with a roll of printing paper already loaded and a 4GB memory card (you can replace this with your own of up to 32GB). Bonus points for the two extra rolls of paper — because obviously, one can never have too many selfies printed in grainy monochrome.
The camera itself is perfectly sized for little hands, although Edith’s fingers did spend a fair amount of time photobombing her own shots. The included lanyard was easy to attach, and with some negotiation I convinced her it was a good idea to wear it. The camera is durable and it has survived a few drops and knocks already.
Navigating the camera’s features took a bit of trial, error, and repeated consultation of the instructions. But once we got the hang of it, we were flipping through the gallery, applying frames and filters (28 to choose from), and printing like pros. A full charge kept her going for a few hours and it charged back up quickly to full power.
The rear-facing selfie lens was a hit — Edith now considers herself a “selfie queen” and insists on documenting every snack, outfit, and mildly interesting rock she finds. The print quality is decent for a kids’ camera — think “vintage charm” rather than National Geographic. And the screen, while not huge, does the job just fine. It also has a video mode for budding film directors.
A great feature is the cute emoji that appears on the front screen — it’s like a tiny cheerleader encouraging kids to actually look at the lens instead of the ceiling.
The prints are easy to tear off as there is a serrated edge (no safety hazard!), perfect for tiny hands to tear off.
Final verdict? This camera is a delightful little gadget that engages, involves others and encourages sharing. Edith loves it, and our fridge is now covered in slightly blurry but very heartfelt black and white pictures.
