After five years of continuous
Arts Council England (ACE) support, the
Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW) in Haldon Forest Park is
threatened with closure following an unsuccessful
grant application. ACE has given CCANW the
opportunity to re-apply, but only if the charity
raises £20,000 in match funding by mid-March for its new
2010-11 programme year.
CCANW has asked for help from previous funders
Devon County Council and Teignbridge District Council, who have recently made
arts funding a low priority, but is also appealing to
regional businesses and the
public who play a
pivotal part in securing its future. CCANW is
hugely important for Devon, reaching thousands of
families, school children and
artists. Through its role – engaging people with the pressing
environmental concerns facing the world today through dynamic, socially engaged and
participatory activities – CCANW is an
irreplaceable asset to Devon and its fight to remain the
greenest county in the UK. CCANW has also become a
hub linking regional, international and UK arts, ecology and
education networks, universities and professional bodies.
CCANW’s programme – using the arts to show how we can live more
sustainably within nature - has included year-round
free exhibitions, workshops, events and
activities for school and
community groups.
CCANW has launched an
urgent appeal to the public and regional businesses to donate or become a
Friend of the charity.
