Gallop! is a fabulous book. A board book with a difference, it uses a patented new technology which has been called “Scanimation” to bring animals and a shining star to life. The black and white images literally give the illusion of motion, from a galloping horse to a fluttering butterfly and swinging chimp!

This is an addictive book, you just have to take another look to see how the illusion has been created. It's as amazing for adults as it is for children.

Gallop! has all the advantages of a pop-up book without the disappointment of torn pages. Opposite each “kinetic” image is rhyming text full of simple questions and replies: Can you soar like an eagle? Whoosh-whoosh-glide!

This book is clever, aesthetically pleasing and cool. As a fan of the lenticular postcard - remember the old postcards of winking girls? - Gallop! holds great appeal and I think I was more impressed by it than Toby, although we have both enjoyed it enormously.

I'm glad that his baby sister, Pippa, will get to enjoy it too as the strong black and white images should soon have her mesmerised.

Gallop! would make a great present for any young child. I shall be buying it for Toby's cousins who are about to turn two.
