Amazing CowsSandra Boynton's  popular Hippo books have been firm favourites in our household since Toby was given his first Hippo board book as a baby.

Amazing Cows! keeps the animal theme alive but with a bovine focus for the older family member. Full of cartoons, riddles, jokes and games, Amazing Cows! is a perfect book for the burgeoning reader.

"'It's really funny," reported Toby "I love the jokes and games and the drawings are great." There is a lot going on in this magazine-style book making it the perfect holiday companion. As the cover copy tells us there are: "Two cow stories! Three cow poems! Eleven or so cow jokes! One cow myth! One cow comic book! Find the hidden cows! Way too many unexplained chickens!"

At six Toby enjoyed the humour of most of the book but there was a level of comedy, cultural reference and vocabulary that entertains adults and older readers, say of nine or ten.

I enjoyed singing along to "It had to be Moo" with it's quirky cow lyrics and especially liked the cow fashion section which helps a cow stand out from the herd, one look for the season – gingham feedbags, "always elegant and practical for cows on the go"!

Toby has been entertaining everyone with his knock-knock jokes and tales from the cow comic.

For young readers and cow fans young and old Amazing Cows! provides 80 colour pages of silly fun to read to themselves and enjoy Boynton's illustrations which perfectly compliment her cow stories. They can then leave it lying around for their parents to flick through and chuckle too!

And a final word from Toby, "Moo revoir"' a useful phrase picked up from How to speak cow – good-bye.
