World First Aid Day

Health-related applications for smartphones and tablets are a booming business in the technology world but in the UK, first aid apps could actually be a lifesaver for millions, a new British Red Cross survey has found.
 
According to the latest research by the charity in ten of the biggest cities across the UK, almost three quarters of British people said they would be more likely to help someone in the event of an emergency if they have a first aid app on their mobile device or smartphone.

• 9 in 10 adults believe that everyone should learn basic first aid.
• 1 in 3 adults thinks that learning first aid is difficult.
• 4 in 10 adults think they wouldn’t be very confident to help someone who is unconscious and breathing.
• 1 in 2 adults thinks they wouldn’t be confident to help someone who is unconscious and NOT breathing.
• 2 in 5 adults think they wouldn’t be very confident to help someone who is bleeding severely.

The British Red Cross is encouraging the public to download its free First Aid apps and learn life saving skills as it marks World First Aid Day.
 
The British Red Cross First Aid and Baby and Child apps are cross platform applications featuring videos, interactive quizzes and simple step-by-step advice – allowing users to save lives at a swipe of their touchscreens. Both are free to download on Apple’s iTunes store and the Google Play marketplace.
