The Airbrush Art Activity Kit from Canal Toys has proven to be an instant success with all four of our grandchildren, aged three to eight years old. The younger one needed little supervision even though recommended for 3+. This kit is easy to set up, simple to use and very engaging.
The lightweight case provided not only allows it to be transported everywhere but also facilitates storing the colourful airbrush pens, in the lid of the case, when in use – avoiding the scenario all parents dread: the missing pens left at someone else’s house or lost in the garden…
Being electronic the airbrush avoids the need for children to ‘pump’ to get the paint to flow from the pens. In our experience this is often been an issue for younger children, but not with this kit. The eight airbrush colours, red, two shades of pink, yellow, green, blue, purple and black are impressively vibrant and spectacular when blended.
The ten stencil cards are delightful in that they cover a range of topics and can be overlaid to produce more elaborate pictures, depending on the child’s imagination and age. Not only that but once the stencil design has been completed the child can then add free-hand additional drawings to really personalise the outcome. My favourite stencil card is the dolphin with palm trees, adding birds and undergrowth to make it my own. Whoops – forgot to say also great fun for adults!
The kit comes with ten sheets of paper to use straightaway. However, with extended use both the paper and the pens will need replenishing at some point. The pens can also be used, under supervision, on fabric and are great for personalising trainers, bags and so on.
The replacement pens are not expensive and our originals lasted some time even with four children using them. What we did find useful however, with this number of children, was another airbrush spray. Luckily, having had a number of the extensive range of airbrush products from Canal Toys (yes, we are fans!), we had a spare.
