Karen Trinder won a floatation session and shares her thoughts
I was interested in flotation for some time – having seen films where it induced an almost supernatural state, and also understanding that here, at least, no cares could arise except those I took in with me. I was keen to give it a try.
Having won a session on this excellent website, I booked my time for the Friday of a busy week, when I thought I would be ready for a little R&R! Nevertheless, as the time drew near, I worried about it, would I hear voices? Would I see spacemen, but mostly would I be REALLY bored?
I arrived at the venue precisely on time, changed into the provided slippers and took my little knapsack down the calm corridor beneath the hustle of London Bridge, following my tiny oriental lady guide. After explaining that I had to shower, cover cuts with Vaseline, put in my earplugs, relax for an hour in the brine-filled pod, then shower again, she left me to my fate.
On entering the pod, it was interesting to feel the water supporting my weight, but soon, my relaxation was cut short by the cuts I didn’t know I had! I emerged, vaselined up and tried again.
I went the whole hog, no light, door of pod closed, and after ten minutes the music stopped and I was left with no sound either.
Now for the surprise – I wasn’t a bit bored! I thought, floated, thought some more, but I was very tired and I nodded off. Unfortunately, perhaps due to the large size of my brain, when I drowsed my head tipped back and I got my eyes filled with the water. It stung rather a lot!
I got out of the pod to retrieve a floating pillow I had seen and was just relaxing with this to support me when the music started, the pod started pumping water and it was all over.
I enjoyed the experience very much, it was interesting and DID make me relaxed and not bored. I felt rather fine afterwards. I wish I had been more clued up about it and could have made the most of it. Maybe next time…
