Elizabeth Bull reports: As the grandparent responsible for getting twins, Dan and Lottie (five) to school with their healthy snack, I was delighted to receive the selection of smoothies and fruit bar from Ella’s Kitchen. The great thing about the smoothies was the selection of flavours.
Dan and Lottie tried Strawberry and Beetroot, Apple and Cucumber, Mango and Pumpkin, and Orange and Coconut. They have different tastes so what one likes, the other doesn’t! But both found something to enjoy from this assortment.
The other good thing is that each smoothie contains a vegetable which doesn’t seem to mask the fruit flavour. A good way of sneaking in another of their 5 a day. The smoothies come in a pouch which has a very good cap on. Indeed, the twins had to get an adult to undo them which at least means that there are no accidental spillages in their school book bags.
The bar variety Dan and Lottie tried was the pineapple and coconut one. It was a great hit with Dan and introduced him to the new flavour of coconut. Lottie was not so keen but she prefers savoury tastes and the bar was quite sweet so not to her liking.
Anne Coates reports: Harriet is often quite conservative in her food tastes but she loved the Mango and Pumpkin smoothie. She tried the Orange and Carrot but didn't like it and would not be tempted by the other flavours even the Apple and Cucumber (two of her favourites) did not appeal to her.
Unfortunately out of the three sets we only had the pineapple and coconut version of the snacks and Harriet too found it too sweet (I thought it was rather nice!). The other flavours are banana and raisin plus raspberry and mango.
The drawback I can see is buying a pack of the smooshy snacks and your child only liking one or two of the flavours.
