Animal Shape Letter Matching Game from Melofver

Puzzles, matching and recognising shapes are a precursor to learning to read and these lovely wooden animals offer a fun and educational way to begin recognising the alphabet for toddlers and young children.

There are, obviously, 26 animals to pair up with their initial letter and just in case you have trouble identifying these cute creatures, there's a handy chart in the box (although you can complete the puzzle by a process of elimination!) along with a drawstring bag to keep them all in.

An interesting way to introduce the alphabet and for playing matching games while at the same time developing fine motor skills. Each wooden piece feels lovely to hold and there are no rough or sharp edges. The vibrant colours are great for colour recognition as well.

Lizzie at 27 months loves them and soon understood the idea. Some animals are more familiar than others and she quickly had P for penguin. Of course you can also lay out the letters on their own and sing the alphabet song. Plus you can spell simple words and they become more adroit at recognising the letters

One thing I would say is that when I opened the box, there was a strong smell so I let everything air for a day or so before introducing them into our play.

Wooden Toddler Alphabet Puzzle for Kids is produced by Melofaver who recommend the game for ages three to five, but that is just a guideline.
