 Billie's Buzz by Alison Brown

Subtitled: Six Legs. Four Wings. No limits, Billie's Buzz, written and illustrated by Alison Brown, is a delightful picture book for young children.

Billie is cute, intelligent and extremely agile and wants to be in the Pet Show. She just needs someone to be her owner. Boy fits the bill. He had always wanted a pet and together they work hard for the competition. Boy warns Billie not to show her wings or to buzz as "Some people are just funny about bees."

All goes well until... well you'll have to read the book for the whole captivating story – and you might just need a tissue to dry your eyes at the end!

The illustrations are perfect.

Bees – and spiders – are my favourite insects so I am biassed but this is a beautifully written book, a celebration of bee-ing your true self, perfect for children nervous of bees and those wanting to learn more about their unique importance in our world. There is a page of fascinating bee facts at the end of the book.
