With Royal Mail given the green light to set its own prices for first class stamps, some predict doomsday prices as high as 70p from 46p. Currently 36p, second class postage will still be controlled, but are allowed to rise as high as 55p.Martin Lewis, creator of MoneySavingExpert.com, comments:
"With huge price hikes likely to push the envelope, the right move is to bulk buy stamps now. Provided they say ‘1st’ or ‘2nd’ rather than a price, they're effectively inflation proofed as they're still valid after prices go up. So bulk-buy now, even for Christmas card sending for 2015, and you’re quids in as once prices go up they're very unlikely to come down.
"Plus until 10 April, Superdrug is offering books of first class stamps at 5 per cent off, so it's worth snapping them up now to smash the price rise a long time ahead."
