Kate & Mim-Mim A Christmas WishThe Kate and Mim-Mim A Christmas Wish DVD was received with great anticipation and was a welcomed break from our weekly school-time routine. To be fair, the show was already a hit at our home, since we often watch it on CBeebies. The series main character, Kate, an extremely imaginative five year old and her purple, toy bunny friend, Mim-Mim, tackle numerous challenges encountered in her daily life and imaginary world, Mimiloo.

Victoria and Beatrice adore Kate and Mim-mim. Not surprisingly, they can recite word for word, Kate’s magic chant to bring Mim-Mim to life whilst traveling to their enchanted world Mimiloo.

As to be expected, the Kate and Mim-Mim A Christmas Wish DVD was a pleasure to watch and as such gets a two thumbs-up from my girls, Victoria, five and Beatrice, two. They both enjoyed the many adventures taken by Kate and her “funny bunny friend” Mim-Mim. Moreover, I must admit, I too loved the light-hearted nature of the show and admire the way Kate boldly takes on each problem that comes her way. She is brave, courageous, and dauntless; certainly traits I hope my little girls will want to adopt. Without a doubt, this television series encourages imaginative play and fosters the importance of teamwork among friends. These skills are fundamental to learning and development and thus any exposure to these would be extremely beneficial to early learners.

On the other hand, I found it a bit disconcerting that Kate’s only friends; Mim-mim, Lily, Gobble, Boomer, Tach, are all imaginary. They only come to life in Mimiloo, her imaginary world. Disturbingly, for me, Kate is the only child in the show. She has no children friends; her mum and dad are her playmates.

The Kate and Mim-Mim A Christmas Wish DVD would be a lovely addition to any home DVD collection. The DVD features seven new adventures that fans of the the show will enjoy. The only reason it does not get five hearts is because of the lack of other children and humans in the animation.

PWT rating: ♥♥♥♥
