Just looking through this book makes you want to eat healthily. Pictures of fresh vegetables and fruits, shell fish, pulses and so on abound in all their glorious colours and are enough to whet the appetite - even if like me you don't eat shellfish!
What is new about this book is that Ian Marber doesn't just concentrate on individual nutrients and their powers but considers how they act together. So we are introduced to each nutrient's friend and foe. For example Magnesium needs an adequate intake of calcium (friend) for balance while drinking sweet fizzy drinks (foe) increases the demand for it in our bodies.
With the description of each nutrient we learn how the body uses it, the signs of having too little, if it's possible to have too much and the best food sources. Plus there are lots of menu suggestions for a day's eating.
Then follows a section on eating for specific conditions like Dealing with stress or Eating for greater energy.
The concluding section Foods for Supereating suggests ways in which foods can be teamed up so that we get the maximum goodness from what we eat.
The layout of Supereating is very clear and attractive making you want to dip into it time and again.
Ian Marber is the principal consultant at The Food Clinic in London and has written a number of books under The Food Doctor brand.
