"This is the LEGO® book I've always been waiting for, cool." This was Toby's response to the new LEGO® Minifigures Character Enclyclopedia which arrived just before half-term. An avid collector of LEGO® minifigures since the first series came out back in May 2010, Toby has loved poring through this book dedicated to every aspect of one of his favourite toys.
The LEGO® Minifigures Character Enclyclopedia is divided into ten chapters – one chapter for each of the ten collectible Minifigure series and a separate page for each and every one of the 160 characters! Packed with character biographies, mini facts giving the characters likes and dislikes, accessories information and a "Did you know?" on every page. Did you know that the Bagpiper was created in honour of designer Tara Wike's grandfather, who grew up in Scotland? They even have the same eyebrows, apparently.
Toby's enjoyment of this book has been enormous – whether it was reading about the real creators of the figures and the design processes they used (which I also loved reading about) or comparing his Minifigure collection to the pages of the book. As Minifigures can only be bought in unmarked packs, Toby has spent quite some time oohing and aaahing over the figures he wishes he had!
There are themed pages which unite the characters in different scenarios from the beach to a rock concert, at the circus and summer party which is entertaining as the figures themselves are inspired by history, movies, myth, sports and everyday life. In addition to all the character details and in common with the other DK LEGO® series books, this Encyclopedia comes complete with a Toy Soldier Minifigure, which is exclusive to the book.
I could be biased as I love LEGO® but this is a great book and would make a perfect gift for any LEGO® loving children or a great Fathers Day gift for dad's who grew up with 1970s LEGO® sets!
