Toby, who started school last September, has been a big fan of
Grandpa in my Pocket since its launch early in 2009.
Grandpa in My Pocket follows the adventures of
Jason Mason, aged seven, and his
grandpa, who can shrink to
diminutive size when he puts on his special "
shrinking cap". Jason Mason is an
incredibly likeable character. He lives in the seaside town of
Sunnysands with his sister
Jemima, his mum and dad and Grandpa (played by
James Bolam, of Likely Lads fame).
Only Jason knows about Grandpa's
magical shrinking cap, which when used invariably leads to
comic mayhem. Somehow, however,
Grandpa and Jason always manage to save the day. The rest of the
family believes that Grandpa has gone upstairs for a
little lie down when in fact he is
flying Jason’s toy airplane,
driving his remote control car,
jumping into the vacuum cleaner, pretending to be a
robot and all the while managing to
solve a problem along the way. Each
episode ends with their catch phrase
"It's team work!" The programme illustrates a great
grandparent/grandchild relationship, with both characters delighting in
running rings around the – usually scatty – grownups and rascally children. Their
great bond and team work, as well as Grandpa's fondness for
well-behaved children, give the series a strong
positive message. Grandpa in my Pocket is a classic little
TV series that appeals strongly to Toby and also
delights his sister Pippa, aged two. This
new DVD brings together
80 minutes of shrinking-cap
fun.
