Greek Beach on Thames

Some of my favourite holidays have been taken in Greece – Thassos and Kefalonia in particular. So it was interesting to walk along the South Bank in London, to Gabriel's Wharf and see that Greece had come to London! The riverside walkway has been transformed into a sandy beach complete with parasols and sun loungers, volleyball court and a beach bar.

You can purchase food and drink throughout the day but between 1 and 1.30pm well-known Greek food companie are offering complimentary samples of authentic Greek cuisine. Plus you can see Andrew Robertson, London-based sand sculptor, construct masterpieces, kick a ball around with England’s beach soccer team, dance to the rhythm of Greek music, have fun with face paints, and much more on the ultimate urban beach from Greece.

The programme of events includes particular days dedicated to the gastronomy, traditional music and dance from specific destinations – Saturday 19 June (Rhodes), Sunday 20 & Friday 25 June (Crete), Saturday 26 June (Halkidiki).

Entertainment offers something for all, there's a prize draw every day at 5pm to win holidays to Greece.

Entrance on to the beach is free, although limited to 400 people at a time.

Open every day from 10am to 7pm until Sunday 27 June.
