Shea Moisture shampooOn receiving the Shea Moisture Jamaica Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo and Leave-in Conditioner, I was eager to use the products. As a card-carrying “product junkie”, I can unashamedly say I have used hundreds of different products, if not thousands on my hair. My hair like my two young daughters is naturally kinky and is not chemically treated. Thus, it can sometimes be a challenge to find the right products that complement our hair.

Not surprisingly, I have used Shea Moisture products once before and I was not overly impressed; they were satisfactory. Consequently, I did not expect the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore  products to be particularly impressive, but ladies, was I wrong.

First of all, the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo with Peppermint & Apple Cider Vinegar is particularly a clarifying shampoo that removes product build-up spectacularly whilst keeping the hair well moisturised. Additionally, the Shea Moisture Jamaica Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner with Shea Butter, Peppermint & Keratin is reparative which softens, detangles and controls hair frizz.

The Shea Moisture products are ideal for those who regularly style their hair with heat and chemical straighteners as well as naturally kinky, curly hair like mine. The product line is packed with natural ingredients, organically certified and ethically traded with no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, paraffin, mineral Oil or synthetic colour. Furthermore, the products are coloured hair safe reducing fading.

My hair, like my youngest Beatrice, will behave reasonably with most products and thus I don’t often get wowed. My bigger challenge however, is always my daughter Victoria’s hair. It is always dry and is oddly resistant to hydrating products.

I washed my hair with the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo and was in heaven. Not only was the smell gorgeous but the feel was out of this world. I was blown away by the feel of the product in my hair as well as after it was washed out. This shampoo is amazing. After using it in the early morning, I had to reserve my excitement since, in my mind, the true test of any product is how well it performs with Victoria’s hair.

Shea treatment masqueAs I had taken a while with my hair, there was not much time to do Victoria’s. We were rushing to a Halloween party, so as a means to pre-shampooing, I used the Shea Moisture Jamaica Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner with Shea Butter, Peppermint & Keratin on Victoria’s overly dry hair and planned on washing on returning home later that day.

To my surprise, it was incredible, a fantastic leave-in. Victoria's hair finally bent to my will. That evening I unbraided Victoria’s hair to find it still amazingly soft and moisturised after a long day of running around. The next morning we washed her hair with the Shea Shampoo and I could not believe how soft and moisturised her hair was and felt.

Currently, I am using the Leave-in conditioner as a solution to all her hair-dos including twist outs. I use it on all our hair including both dry and wet hair maintenance and styling. I cannot sing the praises of the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo and the Shea Moisture Jamaica Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner enough.
