I must say that the title attracted me to Ian Fox's book: Small Wants Little Needs – The Spiritual and Practical Solution to Becoming Financially Free. The cover copy promises that this book will "challenge our beliefs about money and society..." And in these economically challenging times who doesn't want to become "financially free"?
Having reviewed so many self-help books, I must sayI found nothing new in Small Wants Little Needs. However that isn't the main reason for my disappointment – many authors write about the same topic and their books may be equally valid.
My main criticism is the presentation. Small Wants Little Needs needs a good editor; it requires a better structure and more attention paid to language and grammar. There are ungainly, meaningless sentences which detract from Ian Fox's message as do the various type faces and point sizes.
Ian Fox's premise (which is not original) is to make as much money from one job as possible. So for example you may write a book and have an ongoing revenue of royalties. The more books you write the bigger your income. So far, so good. But while this is fine for people who have the sort of skills and creativity necessary for this, Fox fails to take into account that society needs people who are prepared to work nine to five or whatever... We need teachers, health professionals, police and so on.
Sadly Small Wants Little Needs does not live up to its own hype.
