Beat the Parents is an enjoyable
quiz game which pitches
parents/adults against
children. Always good fun, as long as the adult isn't uber competitive!
Questions are answered and pieces moved around a
board. There are
wild cards which instruct you to move forward or back, thereby
gaining or losing ground. The
instructions for the
wild cards were initially a bit confusing. The instructions stated ‘follow the instructions on the card immediately'. We were all a little
perplexed as to how we were going to take the children to a
theme park during the course of the
game. However the
instructions we were meant to follow were in
pale grey type at the bottom – move
two places forward. At that point we thought we had better
switch on the lights and kick the brain cells into gear.
The
kids questions were well pitched for
seven to 12 year olds. Over that age they may
need to answer a mixture of adult and children
questions to make the game fair. The
fun questions for adults were things like "Name Peppa Pig brother ", which put paid to
competitive Dad's chances of winning.
Beat the Parents is useful as the
quiz cards could be used for a stand alone
adult vs. kids quiz , for example on camping trips, cub camps etc. The
children who played the game were a little
disappointed that the
wild cards were not forfeits , but nonetheless
everyone enjoyed the game and in the end the
kids won!
