Turning left from the main
Altomincio entrance and two minutes walk down the hill towards the river which feeds into
Lake Garda, lies the ideal place for a
family evening meal –
Ristorante Albergo Diga.
The
tables are set outside under
parasols and around a huge,
gnarled tree. (There is a
dining area inside as well.) We hadn't booked but most
local people had. However a table was found and a
highchair brought for Harriet. The
highchairs were a feature – a collection of
old fashioned wooden chairs, each different and with a
charm of its own.
Our
little diner immediately set about her own
charm offensive and a basket of different and
interesting breads kept her
occupied while we chose from the
menu. There are no separate
children's dishes (thank goodness) and we saw a few
families were rather thrown by this but you can always offer a
starter size portion for
smaller appetites.
We dined at
Ristorante Albergo Diga twice and the
first time made the mistake of ordering
too much! We had the
anti pasto della casa (12€) – one portion
shared between the
three of us and it could easily have been a
meal in itself! Olivia then had
Tortellini and I had the best
fillet of salmon trout I've ever had. A choice of
12 vegetables was presented on a
trolley and you could
sample as much as you wanted for
3€. Olivia only just had room for a lovely
panacotta. With a half litre carafe of
house wine the bill came to xx€.
The staff are
excellent, the food
delicious and the setting by the river
perfect.PWT rating: ♥♥♥♥♥Ristorante Albergo Diga
