My
four year old daughter Frida was very excited when I asked her if she would like to watch the latest
Barbie film. The arrival of the
DVD seemed to magically coincide with a new
Barbie toothbrush and a
Barbie doll on loan from a friend, so this seemed to round off the current
Barbie mania in our household.
Barbie in this movie is called
Merliah, who is a fun and fashionable
surf champion who is also secretly a
magical mermaid princess. The film opens with
Barbie in Australia taking part in a major
surf competition.
Frida does not like watching
films that are in any way
scary and, although there is an
evil mermaid Eris, who wants to take over the throne of
Oceana, this part is not too scary and is therefore
watchable for all
sensitive souls!
Barbie in A Mermaid's Tale 2 focuses on
Merliah, her friend
Kylie and some
sea creatures having to stop Eris from taking over
Oceana.If you have a
young girl, I am sure she would
enjoy it very much. It is the
right length to hold their
attention and with the usual mix of
princesses and
mermaids hits all the right g
irly buttons. As a
parent I was glad to see that
Barbie was also portrayed as a
leader, a
hero and a
friend and the ending has a nice
twist about
winning.
