How Big Is the Lion?
My First Book of Measuring is a sturdy book that has an attractive
wooden ruler firmly
attached to it. The
idea is that you use the
ruler to measure things in the
book.
It is a
simple concept, but well executed. The book is
nicely
illustrated, with appliqué style illustrations. In
each illustration there is a
dotted line or two, showing you
where to measure. The
rhyming text also
explains what you
should measure.
It is a
fun book, and my
four year old has been
enjoying
using it. It's
perfect for four to six year olds, who are just
beginning to understand
the idea of
numbers and
measuring.
Though I have to say my
pedantic side was irritated by "measure it quick"' even if the
text needed to scan, and it also seemed a bit of
a
shame that the
measurements are usually not
whole centimetres, or inches,
which doesn't encourage
exact measuring.
On the whole,
How Big Is the Lion?
My First Book of Measuring is nicely done, but on balance, I'm
not sure that a
tape measure and objects around the
house aren't just as much
fun...
