Bibs are a staple bit of
kit for most parents and in my
experience you can never have enough. My three year-old son was recently given a
leather bib from
Daisy Roots. He is tractor mad so the fact that it had a
red tractor on the front made it an instant hit. As his
mother though I did have a few
reservations regarding the
practicalities.
The
first thing that I noticed about this
bib was the
fastening. Instead of Velcro or a
popper, the bib is held in place by a
pair of magnets. The strength of the magnets really
surprised me and my son found it quite
hard to remove it himself unlike the
bibs we have with
poppers which he seems to undo in an instant. The
magnets are sewn into little
pockets, which means that you can
adjust their positioning depending on the
size of your
child's neck.
Although my son is three and can
feed himself quite well we do have a
few spills at meal times so my
other worry about the
bib was how easy it was to
clean. I needn't have worried though, as the
Daisy Roots leather bib has been very
easy to clean. I have rinsed it under the
hot tap, used
baby wipes on it and it still looks as
good as when it arrived. Even
dried-on food and marks seem to
come off easily. As it is made from
leather the other thing that I have noticed is that it is
becoming softer with use, just like a
favourite pair of leather shoes
softens as you wear them.
This bib has been a
great success in our house and I would be very happy to
recommend it to my friends. It's perfect for
older toddlers who don't need the
absorbency of a cotton bib and for
parents who want an
alternative to plastic bibs.
