Head lice are a part of growing up - no shame attached. It's estimated that one in four primary school age has lice at any one time.
However you have to be prepared to treat them - I remember one girl in my daughter's primary class whose family never bothered so she always had them - and generously passed them on!
Parents need to:
- Check all the family regularly once a week using a fine comb after hair washing.
- Avoid using chemical brands of head lice solutions. Head lice are often resistant to them and soem children such as those with asthma or eczema may react badly to them.
- One of the most effective ways of getting rid of head lice is to leave conditioner on the hair and "wet comb" before rinsing.
- Try Nitty Gritty products, designed by three mums for their own children. Their Nitfree Comb has won accolades for its effectiveness.
