Barbie™ in The Pink Shoes is the latest
DVD which takes the
iconic doll on a magical adventure into a dream
ballet world. At nearly three Harriet already goes to
ballet class and loved the
English National Ballet's My First Sleeping Beauty just as I'm sure she'll delight in
My First Cinderella.Barbie plays Kristen, a
young dancer who is always second to the rather unpleasant Tara, the troupe's
lead dancer. As they prepare for a
performance in front of the major players in the
ballet world, Kristyn is crushed by both Tara's hurtful comments and her ballet shoes coming apart.
Seeking another pair of
pumps, Kristyn is given a pair of
pink ballet shoes and suddenly she and her friend Hailey are transported to the world of
Giselle and
Swan Lake where she has to dance for her life and defeat the evil
Snow Queen.
As in
traditional fairy tales the characters in the
magical world have their counterparts in the real one. But Kristyn is not led astray by offers of marriage. Our
feisty heroine talks about college and
career.
The message in
Barbie™ In The Pink Shoes is an obvious one about the value of
friendship and the importance of working for your
dream – whatever that may be.
No doubt
Barbie™ In The Pink Shoes will have little girls
and hopefully little boys
pirouetting around the room and you can read leading ballerina,
Lauretta Summerscales,
How to get your child into ballet.
