The
adidas women’s 5k challenge on Sunday 5 September is a
women-only 5k event is taking place in
London’s Hyde Park and is open to
women of all ages and abilities. You can
walk, run, or fly to the
finish line with your mum, sister, daughter or best mate –
all angels are welcome!
Becky Rideout, a mum of a
child with autism who took part in last year’s event, said: “After almost
three years of visits to
speech therapists, paediatricians,
audiologists and psychiatrists we were finally told that
Jessica has autism. Waiting three years for a
diagnosis is not unusual, but
delays in diagnosis could mean a child
missing out on the help they need so much to
thrive.
“There’s so much
misunderstanding about autism and what it actually means to live with the
condition. Most people have no idea
how common it is or how
challenging it can be. Jessica can be very
hard to deal with at times but we wouldn't have her any other way. The
NAS provides
support and reassurance to families like mine and I’d
urge anyone who’s thinking about taking part in the
adidas Women’s Challenge for the
NAS to go for it!”
As an
NAS Autism Angel you’ll receive a fabulous
Autism Angels t-shirt and halo as well as all the
training and fundraising
support you need to raise a
minimum of £100 in sponsorship money. If you’ve already got your
own place in the
event you can still join the
NAS angelic team and just raise as much as possible.
